What can you claim for filming from home?
Most creators start at home, and home costs are claimable — with rules. HMRC's simplified flat rate is based on hours worked from home each month and needs no receipts, which suits people who film occasionally. Apportioning actual costs — rent or mortgage interest, council tax, utilities, insurance — by rooms and time used gives a bigger figure but requires the working to be kept. If you convert a room to a permanent studio used exclusively for business, the claim is larger again but you should take advice on the capital gains position before you go that far.
