Enter a charity number and this searches published UK grants data for every grant that charity has received. It is the quickest way to find out who funds work like yours, because the fastest route to a new funder is usually a funder already giving to somebody who does what you do.
Try a charity doing similar work to you, in a similar place, at a similar size. Their funders are your best list.
What this is searching
360Giving is an open data standard that UK grantmakers publish to voluntarily. Several hundred funders do, including most of the large trusts and foundations and a lot of local authorities and lottery distributors. The data is theirs, published under an open licence, and this tool just queries it.
What it will not tell you
Funders who do not publish to the standard are invisible here, so an empty result means nobody who publishes has funded that organisation, not that nobody has. It also shows grants that have already been made. It is a map of who gives to what.
How to use it properly
- Search three or four organisations that genuinely look like yours: same field, similar size, same sort of place.
- Write down the funders that appear more than once.
- Look at the grant sizes. A funder whose grants are all £2,000 is not going to give you £80,000, whatever their website says.
- Go and read their actual criteria before you write anything.
